Adobe is going to scrap their hard copies (disks) for their software (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash), and have you pay a subscription for the latest software called the Adobe Creative Cloud. $50 per month. Could you really afford such an expense in the long run?

This is really disturbing. Please hear what he has to say, it really is a serious situation for working artists. Pass this along so others may know about the Adobe Creative Cloud and how horrible it is.

Yep… Just went to see how much Flash costs. You know, to just buy the program? Guess what? After spending a while looking, it appears that you CAN’T anymore. You have to pay an outrageous subscription fee. I hate adobe. Is there a petition going around to stop this nonsense? Because I want to sign it.

Today I just signed the petition in the voice against the Adobe Creative Cloud. For those who are not familiar with what the new Creative Cloud can do to you as an artist, I really suggest you watch this video.

For those who have seen, reblogged, faved, here’s the link (as shown in the previous reblog) to sign the petition. Anything can happen, Adobe really needs to know that many artists are not supportive of them controlling not just the software..but the content worked on the Cloud.

NSFW,boob.

This is a rough concept of a desert priestess. I was researching “White” or “pale” cheetahs and made up this character. She is a pale cream colour, with faint rusty coloured spots. I started painting her before renovating my studio, with watercolours. Once I find the painting in whatever box it’s in, I’ll sit down and finish it. She’s part of a much larger piece I’m working on, if I ever get to finishing it, I just wanted to do a little character test with this piece.

Officially done placing furniture in my studio(and post renovation cleaning because DUST). The past month or so has been insanely busy. I’ve gotta catch up on my stuff.

Heres just a few sketches of normal, maybe boring bears from my sketchbook that I kind of like—for now, until I catch up with the bigger projects I’m working on.

These are all referenced off of Bela Baliko images for practice (with permission).

I don’t know why I almost always ink my sketches..I think that inking really messes with the fluidity and life of the line work. I’ve never’ve been good at it. I just do it anyways because I’m silly. I guess it adds a bit of colour. XD

If you are familiar with Bela Balikos photography, you may notice that some of these are not identical to the original images. Often times in his images, the animal legs are cut off by folliage or rocks. I started to notice that it looks like I’m avoiding to draw feet, which is totally not true. So I added feet! XD

Komodo Dragon Study!

Greetings folks!

Friday I decided to get some practice sketching in, so on twitter I asked folks what I should draw. PennigtonBeast suggested I draw lizards. I narrowed it down a bit and focused on komodo dragons. Referenced images (some more loosely than others) from dragon-komodo.com (purely for practice and nothing more!). I like how their little pinkies kind of stick out when lying around, makes them seem somewhat sophisticated X3

Been a bit scarce here lately as I was in the process of renovating my studio. That made me really busy and I’ve been on a mini commission hiatus as a result of this. I am not officially set up in the renovated studio, we still have a few things to do. However it is near completion!

Until then, I’ve managed to set up my lap top on the kitchen table to work on what I can. I’ll be continuing thumbnails for commissions and research.

I did some digging and found this! I can’t stop laughing. This was my fursona when I was about 8-10 years old. Her name was Xena the cheetah. She rode a motorcycle. WHAT A BADASS. Watch out for those FIRE SLASHERS GUISE. —Interestingly I haven’t changed much! My core interests are the same: cool lady warriors, weapons, armor, felines, and my fursona is STILL a fire elemental. —OMG LOOK AT ALL THE GLITTER I ADDED TO THE PICTURE XD

18.What is your purpose for drawing?

Drawing is something really important to me. It gets to the point where if I don’t draw for a few days I get cranky. Creation is a core need for me, it’s just part of my being. I am happy when I create, even if it’s for someone else. I like making people happy with my art. I like inspiring people. I like the feeling I get when I see myself improve. I get all extra excited and just want to keep going until I get that feeling again. That aside, In my personal work (if I ever get to it -.- ) I like to touch on the subject of animal welfare, the state of our planet. I think the concept of anthropomorphic animals is an interesting way to project my feelings and opinions on that topic.

5.Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?

When I practice in my sketchbooks i’m usually working in a realistic style. Referencing from photographs (with permission) and life. From there, when I work on other stuff, I distort the realism a bit. When I was a kid I LOVED Legend of Zelda (still do) and was slightly influenced by anime style but I grew out of that.

15.What do you like drawing the least?
Like a lot of folks: I don’t enjoy drawing things that aren’t organic. So when we delve into the realm of architecture/buildings, mechanical objects, I shudder a bit. However, this isn’t something I’m totally opposed to drawing. To be a well rounded artist I know I need to work on this too. But we all have our preferences!

21.Do you believe there is such thing as “bad art?”

I think I could write an essay on that topic, but to keep it short: It’s subjective. One person will love a certain piece of art, others will hate it. I don’t particularly like abstract, or when people take a dump in a hallway and call it art, but some people do like it, and do appreciate it.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?

I would have to say, my favorite piece would have to be my most recent one:”An Ancient King in a Modern Realm”.

I learned a lot of things about lighting and digital painting and I feel that there was an improvement there. Interestingly, I don’t like most of my work. As I finish a piece I always see where I can improve.

14.What do you like drawing the most?

My favorite drawing subjects are fantasy creatures and wildlife, organic subjects from the natural world. I love the process of restoring prehistoric creatures: it’s fascinating to add meat to those ancient bones. Last but not least I love drawing anthro characters. I think it’s an interesting challenge to merge animal and human anatomy, as well as their characteristics. Humans generally seem to separate themselves from animals(when we really are animals), so it makes for an interesting statement to merge the two!

Lady warriors are also a fun subject for me—I’ve recently gotten really interested in drawing armors and other medieval-fantasy costumes.

17. What would you absolutely refuse to draw?

I will not handle depiction of illegal activities, sexually explicit (x-rated) materials and hateful images. Artistic nudity is totally okay with me :)

Pricelists Industry vs Fandom.

If anyone would care to donate a coloured comic page for the comic industry standard list I’m willing to accept one and will give credit c8 I would’ve made one if I had an example but I don’t -A-

But yes that’s off my chest.

Of course this is based off my own browsing over price lists and how I work unfortunately my commissioner homie went idle so I can’t confirm the most vs the least one can spend.

I’ve only found one artist thus far that charges nearly as close to industry standard. Even then it’s under the standard. As far a I’m concerned anyone under the standard shouldn’t have complaints about expensive art. Fandom average is hardly one you can live by.

Would you like to get paid $30 for 3-7 days worth of work?

ahahah ok, this actually made me remember one moment that happened on a local Con this summer, we were doing commissions there, and we were drawing A5 format chibies for 5LT(2$) they were lined, colored and looking all nice and this girl comes to us asking about prices and we tell her that chibi drawing is 2$ and she said: wow that`s too expensive and walked away.

seriously though. I sell my stuff for so cheap when I could get away with much more. Mostly because my friends are either highschoolers or college students and I can understand not having access to or having the money in general, but I’ve sold a print of an unfinished piece for $175 before to an artist/art collector friend, so I know my stuff is worth or close to being worth industry standard prices.

Its hard to see people whine at me that $10 is too expensive for a fully shaded single body when i should be selling them for more 8( But I know a lot of other people enjoy the prices because they can actually buy stuff at that price, so it’s worth it for them more than anything.

Pay attention.

In short, because you are also paying for all of the un-paid hours those artists spent researching, studying, practicing and honing their skills. For your average professional, that’s thousands of hours. That’s a lot of non-paid preparation time that needs to be made up for. That, and of course freelancers have to compensate for their financial insecurity and lack of employment benefits (think of a pension, sick leave, health insurance and paid holidays). This is, in a nutshell, why professional freelance artists are so expensive.

Most of the background is complete. Gotta polish up/finish those trees. They will also be a bit out of focus like the mountains, I think.

Then we move on to completing the foreground! The longest/hardest part will be the fur detail I think.
